The Pirna Culture Market, organised by the Civil Courage Campaign, takes place once a year.
In 1999 students and apprentices from the town of Pirna in the Saxon Switzerland region founded the Civil Courage Campaign ("Aktion Zivilcourage"). Their opposition to the neo-Nazis is badly needed in this region, considered to be the national heartland of the neo-Nazi movement. Together with the Amadeu Antonio Foundation and stern magazine´s project "Stand Up Against Neo-Nazi Violence", the youth initiative organized concerts with performances by the German pop singers Udo Lindenberg and Xavier Nadoo, street fairs, and discussions with school children. Every May the Civil Courage Campaign organizes a huge "Culture Market" in the center of Pirna.
The Civil Courage Campaign has become an important component in the social life of the Saxon Switzerland region. In 2002 the Campaign was awarded the Social Initiative Prize for German Companies by the former German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder.
