The German pop singer Udo Lindenberg came to support the Network for a Democratic Culture in Wurzen in 2001.

The Network for a Democratic Culture

The Network for a Democratic Culture was established in 1999 in the Saxon town of Wurzen. Through the joint efforts of the Amadeu Antonio Foundation and the weekly newspaper "Die Zeit", 51,000 Euros were raised. With that, the Network was able to acquire a three storey building in the center of Wurzen to use as its headquarters. This center for cultural and civic life is an important place for the democratically oriented residents of Wurzen and the entire Muldetal region.

The Network for a Democratic Culture organizes hip-hop concerts, dance parties, exhibits, readings, film screenings, and educational trips that had never before been availible in Wurzen. The Network is a heartening example of how you can become active against neo-Nazis by providing attractive alternatives. Those involved have affected a change that can be felt throughout the entire city in addition to creating a selection of multi-faceted options as alternatives to the dominance of neo-Nazis in the region. The Wurzen initiative was part of a group that received the Theodor-Heuss-Medal for exemplary democratic behavior.
