The CURA Victims Support Fund of the Amadeu Antonio Foundation aims to provide attention and support to the victims of right extremist violence. The CURA Fund offers victims and their families the direct aid they urgently need, without bureaucracy.
Right-wing violence in Germany is a daily occurrence. More often than not, however, it is the perpetrators and their motives which receive the most attention, while the plight of the victims is quickly forgotten. A victim of right-wing violence would often suffer from physical and emotional trauma years after the incident/s.
The work of the CURA Victims Support Fund helps victims from every background: immigrants, the homeless, non-right-wing youth or others who have been singled out for right extremist violence. The Fund helps out with the compensation for material damages incurred during the violent incidents. It also covers legal fees, grants financial aid for psychological counselling and medical treatment, and supports victims in dire financial straits. Parallel to this, the Fund also cooperates with specialist advice centers for victims of extremist violence, and raises public awareness of their work.
In founding the CURA Victims Support Fund, the Amadeu Antonio Stiftung looks back to the experiences of Action CURA, the earlier incarnation of the Fund. Ursula Kinkel, wife of former Foreign Affairs Minister Dr. Klaus Kinkel, created Action CURA in 1993 after the racially-motivated arson incident in Mölln and the pogroms in Hoyerswerda. In 2004, the Amadeu Antonio Foundation took on the sponsorship of Action CURA.
