Concerned about the attacks against immigrants, the German weekly stern initiated in August 2000 the campaign “Stand up against right-wing violence” (Mut gegen rechte Gewalt).
This way stern provided an important platform of publicity to the Amadeu Antonio Foundation and its partner projects. The campaign’s goal is to set a signal against right-wing violence and to collect donations for projects dedicated to the fight against the extreme right. Since the start of the campaign numerous stern articles informed about the dangers of right-wing extremism in Germany and successful counter projects and initiatives.
Through the stern campaign, which was also supported by the German rock star Udo Linderberg’s artistic group “Rock Against Right-Wing Violence”, donations of more than 1.63 M € were received. These donations enabled the financing of more than 140 initiatives (as of November 2011). The selection of the projects is carried out in close cooperation between the Amadeu Antonio Foundation and the stern magazine.
In order to be able to provide up to date and in depth news coverage on right-wing extremism and counter strategies, the Amadeu Antonio Foundation, together with stern and the German software company SAP, started a journalistic internet platform in April 2003 called “Stand Up Against Right-Wing Violence” (Mut-gegen-rechte-Gewalt.de).
