Germany hate crimes report July/August 2014

After ten years, the NPD didn’t manage to stay in the parliament of Saxony. This is a relief and weakens the NPD all over Germany, because that means that the NPD loses 1,4 million Euro, approximately 40 jobs for their supporters and the possibility to spread their hatred in the publicity of the parliament. On the other hand, their neo-Nazi supporters will not disappear. The strict ones return to underground organizations, the moderate ones changed to the right-wing populist AfD, which gained 9,7 percent of the votes in Saxony and will definitively influence the politics in Saxony in right-populist, islamophobic, homophobic way, also promoting a strong Law-and-Order-mentality. This is still very problematic for a democratic society.

For almost a year now neo-Nazis and NPD focus on the theme of asylum seekers to spread racism, addressing prejudices which seem to be still in the heads of large numbers of the population in Germany. Unfortunately, this also vents itself in a growing number of threatening, attacks and violence, even against children and old, disabled persons. This is a thread to human rights in Germany.

Through the demonstrations on the Gaza Conflict a degree of anti -Semitic attitudes in Germany is visible once again which beforehand not even pessimists would have considered possible - and this extends from the left of the political spectrum over the middle to the right-wing spectrum, is found equally within migrant and native communities - an unholy alliance of conspiracy and anti-Semitic hatred.
