Weeks of Action against Anti-Semitism

For the 14th time the Aktionswochen gegen Antisemitismus – Weeks of Action against Anti-Semitism – were happening all across Germany with more than 300 events and more than 120 initiatives involved! This combination of our initiatives, long dedicated to the fight against Anti-Semitism, promises exciting opportunities and long-term, sustainable synergy. (Pardon our buzzwords.) In 2016 we were thrilled to welcome the Anne Frank Center of Berlin as a partner organization on this project. Last year, the Weeks of Action against Anti-Semitism were addressing, among others, the following key subjects:

Anti-Semitism and conspiracy-based ideologies, and the social acceptability of voicing them
Anti-Semitism under the mantle of criticism of Israel, or through unbalanced coverage of Middle Eastern conflict by German news media
Anti-Semitism in particular subcultures
Online hate speech against Jews or Judaism
The fear, not exclusive to the German Jewish population, of a “new Anti-Semitism” arising as a result of increasing migration from states with official anti-Israel policies and positions

Public buildings, like the Friedrichstadtpalast in Berlin, were displaying excerpts of our timeline of anti-Semitic incidents in Cologne, Dresden, Göttingen and Kiel. If you are interested in organizing an event in 2017 for your city, please get in contact with us! You can reach us here: aktionswochen@amadeu-antonio-stiftung.de

An overview of last year’s events can be found in our Event Calendar for 2016

Thank you for your engagement and we are looking forward to a successful beginning to this year’s Weeks of Action against Anti-Semitism!

Holocaust Memory at Risk. The distortion of Holocaust History across Europe

Among the most prevalent forms of Holocaust denial and distortion in Germany today are the trivialization of the Holocaust, “Holocaust fatigue,” and the issue of “double-genocide,” the equation of Nazi and Communist crimes. Other noticeable aspects of distortion consist of inaccurate comparisons between Israel and Nazi Germany or Zionism with Nazism. The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum’s report, to which the Amadeu Antonio Foundation contributed, looks at these and other forms across Europe.
